Accepting Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards can greatly benefit your business by expanding payment options for your clients. To ensure a seamless payment process, it is essential for businesses to be registered with a Merchant Category Code (MCC) recognized as a legitimate healthcare expense. This article will guide you through the steps to optimize your ability to process HSA/FSA payments.
Understanding MCCs and their Role:
Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) are four-digit numbers assigned to businesses to classify the types of goods and services they provide. These codes are crucial for enabling HSA/FSA transactions to go through smoothly. For our professionals, we have already assigned the appropriate MCC (7298 - Health and Beauty Spas) to facilitate most transactions.
While the current MCC allows for HSA/FSA transactions, updating your MCC to align more closely with the medical industry can enhance your ability to process both HSA and FSA payments. HSA/FSA cards are typically used for medical-related services, and having an MCC that reflects this alignment can help avoid payment processing issues and provide a better experience for your customers.
Requesting a Change to Your MCC:
If you wish to update your MCC to better cater to HSA/FSA payments, please contact our support team and provide us with the details of the services you wish to provide and accept HSA/FSA cards for. We will be happy to submit a request to our payment processor to consider switching your MCC. It is important to note that while we will make every effort to facilitate this change, we cannot guarantee that our payment processor will grant the request.
Note: At this time CareCredit cards are not accepted through our platform, even with an updated MCC. Please process CareCredit cards outside of the GlossGenius platform.
